NEW VIDEO: Zeiss Batis 85mm f/1.8 OSS Lens 4K Video Test (Tested with Sony A7SII)
Zeiss Batis 85mm f/1.8 OSS lens 4K Video Test
This is the Zeiss Batis 85mm f/1.8 lens 4K Video Test. I recently picked up this lens for my Singapore wedding shoot. As I have mentioned before I love carrying light weight when I go travel. Having a native e mount lens for the A7 series is just great. I do own a Zeiss 85mm f/1.4 ZE Planar T* Manual Focus Lens (Canon Mount) But that lens doesn't have autofocus and no build in image stabilization. For video work, autofocus is not a bigger deal for me. But the full metal lens just too heavy for travel. Plus I need to use the Metabones adapter to make it work. So I end up leaving the lens home all the time, So I decided to get the Batis 85mm lens.
First of all, great build quality as you expected from Zeiss. Unlike the Loxia series, the lens is not metal design. But thats what I like about. I know metal feels a lot more solid. But light weight is the number one thing for me at this stage. Second, the Batis series has got the little LCD display for focus distance. Its pretty cool. I wouldn’t say its necessary. But I don’t mind to have it. Another thing that I like was the build in image stabilization. This is the first Zeiss Batis lens to have OIS. For A7SII or A7RII users, yes its not that important cos the camera do have IBIS already. But I do use the original A7S and a6300 sometimes. So its more than welcome to have it builded in.
Over all, the image quality is awesome. The lens is really sharp. And the OIS performs pretty well too.
