We need to talk about the new ARRI Alexa camera by Alec C. Cohen - ProVideo Coalition
www.provideocoalition.com
In a move that echoes BMW’s ill-fated attempt to sell seat warmers as a subscription service, ARRI has introduced the Alexa 35 Base Model, a stripped-down version of its flagship camera that require...2 CommentsComment on Facebook
This seems like an uncommonly ill-informed take for the team at PVC. The licensing model is a return to how top-end cinema cameras (like the Mini, Amira and Venice) have functioned for a decade. It’s only the Venice 2 and MiniLF that have moved away from the model. So it’s clearly not some harbinger of industry doom, and newfound gatekeeping methods (like they’re suggesting), but a price-cutting measure obviously introduced to try and move hardware in a rapidly contracting market (as venture capital has fled away from Streaming Services and into AI development). 🤷♂️
Did they need to talk about this with Alexa Mini and Amira licences too ? Looks like in production domain camera makers are used to project one's dissatisfaction with crumbling society while the real culprits are somewhere else.

Exciting news about base model direct availability of the timeless Alexa 35 line of cinema cameras. It's the same as the flagship but without RAW enabled, if ProRes is enough for you anyway (and even so, you can later on enable RAW with an additional license). Best part is, it's "more" affordable now. Click here for details and links to pre-order: www.bhphotovideo.com/explora/video/news/arri-drops-alexa-35-base-model/BI/8206/KBID/8862/SID/DFF ...
