Check out this new post at Premiumbeat.com by Noam Kroll. He shows you some low-cost solutions that live somewhere between “practical lighting” (basically, just any light in your house, like a table lamp), and stuff you can easily get at a hardware store that’s not actually marketed for filmmakers. Whatever the case, I’d add my caution that white balance gets tricky the more you throw non-reference lighting into the mix, so be careful! You might have to use gels. And, always start shooting with at least a gray card in view, to pull color temperature both in-camera and later in post-production.
